Saturday’s qualifying session was eagerly anticipated, as the four title contenders looked to put themselves in the best possible position ahead of the season finale.
Sebastian Vettel will be the happiest of the quartet, having stuck his Red Bull on pole, yet again. The question will be whether the fragile Red Bull will last the pace. Lewis Hamilton also has reason to be happy as his title rivals have faster cars based on recent form and the front row of the grid is, therefore, a good performance. Championship leader Fernando Alonso won’t be too unhappy with third, given his points lead over Vettel and Hamilton. Mark Webber, however, could only manage fifth place on the grid which, as Alonso’s closest rival, means he will face an uphill struggle to win this year’s World Drivers’ Championship.
