This is the first of several events celebrating the 125th anniversary of Newport’s incorporation as a city in 1882. The City of Newport will host a birthday party at City Hall, Tuesday, October 23, from 3 to 5 p.m. Rogue Ales Public House will host its birthday bash on Friday, October 26 from 9 p.m. to midnight with live music and dancing. The Newport Symphony Orchestra will conclude the weeklong celebration with a performance on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Newport Performing Arts Center.

Costumed characters from Newport in the 1880’s will tell their stories to visitors as they move through the Burrows House and Log Cabin museums and the Carriage House. They will participate in an enactment of a ceremony to celebrate the incorporation in October 1882 of the city of Newport with John Baker, newly elected president of the Lincoln County Historical Society, toasting the city in the persona of Sam Case, Newport’s founding father.
Newport's bayfront has historically had residents other than humansBrent Bunker will play music from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s on musical instruments from the same period. Ted Cox will play accordion in the Log Cabin, and Sue Lick will play guitar in the Burrows House. All entertainment and refreshments are free and open to the public.
