Update: Energy Grant for Commercial, Industrial, and Large Non-Profits

I wrote a previous post about an upcoming grant from the NC Energy Office. The solicitation for proposals notice has now been released, and proposals are due March 9. The grant is for owners of commercial facilities, industrial facilities, and large nonprofit organizations for projects involving energy efficiency upgrades. The grant amount will be up to $500,000 with a minimum project cost of $100,000. It would be great to see a Kannapolis business apply!

Below is the solicitation notice:

The North Carolina Energy Office seeks proposals from owners of commercial facilities, industrial facilities and incorporated large nonprofit organizations for energy efficiency upgrades using commercially available technologies to reduce energy and petroleum consumption, cut costs and emissions. For the purposes of this funding opportunity, a large nonprofit organization is one whose proposed project contains at least one building owned by the applicant with 20,000 or more square feet. Funds for this program come from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and are intended to result in significant and sustained job creation and energy efficiency.

The Energy Office is requesting projects that are cost-effective and can be quickly implemented while also attaining the job creation and energy efficiency goals. The successful applicant must manage and monitor the retrofit work, verify energy savings and verify economic benefits including job creation and retention. Some examples of projects include but are not limited to: solar electricity/photovoltaic – appropriately sized system or unit on existing rooftops and parking shade structures; Solar thermal – system must be 20 kW or smaller; or installation of energy efficient lighting in existing buildings.

The Energy Office has between $1 million and $5 million available depending on availability of funds and qualified projects. The minimum application funding request is $100,000, and the maximum $500,000.   All questions must be submitted in writing to Nichele Parker, project manager, at nparker@nccommerce.com or faxed to 919.733.2953.  This solicitation closes at 2 p.m. Wednesday March 9, 2011.  Information about the solicitation is available at the N.C. Energy Office website.  A copy of the solicitation can be found online at:
