How to Conquer Mind Clutter

Clutters are needless burdens. They are things that you don't need and are taking too much space not only in your home but in your mind as well. Having a cluttered mind drains up energy, slows down progress and if left unabated, will rot the mind and spirit. We live in a world of stresses, pressures, worries, noise and chaos. Compared to the clutter in our house that we can always pick up easily, the decluttering of the mind is a daunting task. The mind is a complex organ. It is often covered with tissues of hurts and past traumas that lie deep in the layers of our consciousness that even the greatest psychoanalysts cannot reach. So how does one conquer clutter? With these simple steps, decluttering of the mind can be achieved.

Stop Worrying. This is hardest for people who are worry warts. Worrying is their way of life. They worry of what happened before, worry of every little detail at the moment; worse, they worry over something that has not even happened yet. Every time a worried thought cross your mind, crush it immediately with positive thinking. Focus your energy on what you would like to happen instead.

Write it down. If there are so many things cluttering your mind like things to do, it helps when you write it down. Write down things you need to do or places to go or what to buy. This keeps your head from being filled with too many thoughts that will confuse you. It also helps to keep a journal especially when it is your heart that is confused. I remembered a friend almost 12 years ago. She was having doubts whether to push through with her marriage to a guy 20 years her senior. They were not in love in fact; it was an arranged marriage common to Chinese families. In searching for answers to her confusion, she put everything down into writing. The pros and cons of this marriage were taken into account. Eventually, it aided her in making the right decision.

Take deep breaths. When confused, it is important to take deep breaths-focusing your mind as you let the air come in and out of your body. It is so simple but effective in clearing out clutter in your mind.

Take a Walk and Enjoy Nature. When filled with so many thoughts that make thinking difficult, take a walk and enjoy nature. There is a certain calmness and peace when walking and enjoying the beauty of nature. Any physical activity can help take your mind off things that bother you. For me, playing tennis is my temporary "escape". The healthy competition of the sport helps clear my mind and makes me think better. Aside from playing tennis, I love watching sunsets and getting in touch with the Maker of nature. He is the source of peace and strength of our spirit.

Finally, to conquer the clutter of the mind is to let go of anger and learn to forgive. It is normal to feel hatred towards people who caused us pain but this can also be harmful to our health both physically and mentally. It doesn't mean you have to welcome them back in your life with open arms but learning to forgive is to let go of the pain and resentment in your heart for you to move on with your life.

Everything starts in the mind. After all, what the mind can conceive, the body can achieve. Conquering the clutter of our mind is within us. Nobody can do it for you.
